This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image shows a man wearing a DePuy uniform and glasses using a grinding machine. He is holding a piece in both his hands up to the spinning wheel. The piece of metal covering the top of the wheel has two labels on it; one of them being an eye protection mandate, the other an energy saving notice ('Have you switched off. Think. Save money and energy. Climate care'). A wheeled table can be seen next to him, holding nine components on top of a small plastic wallet.
