This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image depicts a worker wearing the DePuy uniform and glasses as they use a machine. The machine has a spinning wheel which they are using to grind/sand down a component. They are holding a small piece to the wheel with both hands. The metal piece covering the top of the wheel has two notices stuck to it but the top one is obscured by the frame. The other one advocates for saving energy ('Have you switched off. Think. Save money and energy. Climate care'). A label at the base of the machine reads 'LEV test point'.
