Celebrating Holi in Bradford. Holi is a traditional Hindu festival celebrating the coming of Spring, in which brightly-coloured powder paint, and water, is sprinkled, thrown or dabbed on all participants which, it is said, is symbolic of the colour of summer to come. In England the festival is celebrated round a huge bonfire, usually situated on waste ground, where coconuts are brought to share whilst the Hindus practice their Pujas round the fire. In India the dress for the day consists of white dhotis and khurtas for the men, and white saris for the women
