March Against Racism
The March Against Racism, which commenced from Lister Park and ended at Bradford University, via streets of Manningham and central Bradford, featured about 400-450 participants. The March Against Racism was organised by the Workers Against Racism, part of the Revolutionary Communist Party (RCP), in response to a growing number of racial attacks in Bradford, particularly on Asian taxi-drivers. Although there was some controversy, particularly in the local press, concerning Church groups associating themselves with such a movement, the event attracted a lot of attention from the local black population, who appeared very happy to see the event, enticing lots of people to come out of their houses and shops to watch the relatively small numbers representative of a large assortment of different groups.
