Signwriter, Richard Metcalfe, worked on a Youth Opportunites Scheme (YOPS) before deciding to go it alone. He rented one of the industrial units, at Knowles Mill (formerly Heatons of Keighley), for his sign-writing business, which he started in August 1985, paying 12.50p per week rent for his 650 square foot area and, on top of this, he also has to pay 300 per year for rates, along with electricity, phone and water charges.
