This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.

This image was produced during a public sector strike against government plans to make them work longer and pay more for their pensions. There is not much evidence from this picture (aside from an illegible tag in the shop front to the left of the frame) but other pictures (H.2025.11.49.5A) suggest this to be the strike in Manchester. This image depicts a photographer standing on top of a street fixture in order to get a better view of strikers passing by. He regards the camera with a grin. A striker can be seen passing by, though the placard they are holding faces away from the camera. The window pictured here became a shop entrance related to Dalton Place after 2018ish.
