This is a photographic negative produced by photographer Ian Beesley. This was part of a project called 'Thackray Remembered' (Thackray 2011) which was commissioned by the Thackray Medical Museum to document the closure of a Thackray factory which manufactured hip and knee replacements. It was taken over by the American company DePuy who moved production to China.
This image depicts a man wearing eye protection and a DePuy uniform. The camera shows a side view of him working with a tool and component of some kind. Though his hands and the perspective of the camera obscure exactly what he is doing, you can tell he is holding a shinier component in one hand and a dull piece with a curved side in the other. Perhaps he is measuring a piece he has just worked on?
