Judith Lee, schoolteacher, and Deputy Headmistress (since Easter 1986) at Feversham First School, Leeds Road, Bradford. Judith presides over 15 pupils, between the ages of four and five, comprising one English girl, two Bengali-speaking children, one Gujerati (Ugandan Asian), 10 Punjabi-speaking children and 1 Urdu-speaking child. As well as holding a senior position for the first time, Judith accepted her 'new' post because it afforded her the opportunity of working with Asian children, which she enjoys; Judith's day begins at 8.30a.m., giving her half an hour to prepare the classroom before the children arrive at 9.00a.m with their parents, and with her assistant, Nursery Teacher, Anne Bryan, divides the day supervising recreation between assembly times, and teaching small groups of children about the 'Three R's' (reading, writing and arithmetic). After assembly, the children partake of milk and apples, the latter of which are bought from the proceeds of a 5p daily donation from each child, and each Tuesday the class perform a play in which all members participate.
